In which we spam the OOC
Hello Lost Realm, it’s your mods once again, this time with a plot update and what’s going to be going on in December here in Darstone. Basically, for the next month, we’re planning to run things very chose-your-own-adventure style, where the PCs will get a significant say in how they want to change things in the city, because right now, things are bad for them and they aren’t getting better without a little push.
Information on all of this can be found in this article I’ve just added to the public google doc (be sure to use it, folks! It’s super fun to add things and we encourage it) in more detail, but I’ll be providing a summary here in this post. Please note that while it’s recommended you read it to get ideas, the sub-heading “Future (Anti-Outsider) Policies” does contain plot spoilers if you like going in blind.
What’s going on now
The current Interim Speaker, Yakisha, is anti-”Outsider,” which all the PCs are. There are numerous other problems with her which have made her other enemies, but this is the big problem that PCs are facing right now. All characters in the game now have floaty light orbs just above their heads which seem to be watching their every move (though Yakisha insists it’s just a tracking system! ...Which isn’t much better) and over the course of December, if she’s not ousted eventually, laws will only get more severe.
What can you do?
In the next month or so, we’re urging players, particularly those who play PCs who would be invested in the current situation or in wanting to change things, to, well, try to change things. Come to us with plots that they might hatch and we’ll work out how they affect things. Maybe they’re gaining allies among some of the NPCs mentioned to be opposed to Yakisha in the document and push them in certain directions.
Ultimately, the goal would be to get the Interim Speaker out of office and replaced with a (different) real, elected Speaker. Even if the players only get rid of Yakisha (using whatever means are deemed most pertinent), we’ll have some fallback for a new Speaker. But for the most part, this is wide open. Come to us with whatever plots you can think of and we’ll give you some information on what will happen with that course of action. Look in the doc, there’s a lot of avenues.
This sort of “choose your own plot” is something we’re going to try for at least the first part of December, if it ultimately seems that a proper gamewide event would be more helpful for breathing life back in the game, we’ll have one by the end of December, don’t worry.
As always, questions, comments, concerns, etc are welcome.
