This meme is taking place in the setting of Darstone, so while you may leave your comment blank, I'd like to recommend you set up a scene or two in your initial comment. Some suggested settings are provided below, but make up whatever you'd like based off the setting pages! ⑴ Marketplace. There's a lot to do in the market-- not just buying goods and window shopping, but sitting down for a cup of coffee at an outdoor table, or getting a drink at a bar. ⑵ Housing. You've just gotten here and finally made it to your assigned apartment, but it turns out you have roommates, and they're one of them. ⑶ Adventuring. Whether out into the surrounding caves or taking a boat onto the lake, you're adventuring, maybe on a quest. Whoever's with you might be a member of your party-- or they might be trying to beat you to the reward. ⑷ Snow. What's snow doing in a cave? Isn't this weird? Well, Darstone is situated under a frosty mountain peak, and from time to time the local mages like to simulate the weather that's going on up above. That means there's some very light, fluffy snow falling from the cave ceiling right now.

[Oh wonderful, JUST wonderful. He wrinkles his nose at the sight of her feet on the couch. It didn't look like they had been washed in weeks. But he steps inside, rolling his eyes and closing the door behind him.

He does note that she's looking in his direction, but not directly at him. The werewolf stuffs his key in his leather jacket pocket.]

Derek Hale. [he says cautiously almost] And... you are?

[fieldtrip]

Toph Beifong, [she says cheerfully, undaunted at his wariness.] Have a seat. [She waves carelessly at an armchair, then smirks.]

You just got here? Thrilled to be in cave city yet?

[puppysitting]

[She was so carefree. Derek himself was still tense about all this himself. But he does glance to the arm chair and moves to take a seat, leaning forward to rest his elbows on his legs and rubs at his face.]

It's different, that's for sure. But I'm not exactly thrilled to be here either.

You seem pretty relaxed about it all though.

[fieldtrip]

I've had a while to get used to it, [she admits, casual as ever but not as confrontational as she might have seemed at first.] Not that I wouldn't be happy to go home... but it could be worse.

We don't get tortured or anything, and there's rock everywhere. It's great!

[puppysitting]

[he furrows his brow in confusion at that]

You're glad that there is rock everywhere?

[fieldtrip]

Sure, I'm an earthbender! That means I can control earth-- and rocks, and dirt, and sand. Being in a cave is like having an endless supply of weapons to throw around. It's practically cheating.

[She looks gleeful about it, though, not at all dismayed.]

[puppysitting]

[He raises his eyebrows. It sounded insane. Someone who can manipulate earth. Derek couldn't help but look a little skeptical, but it wasn't like she could see that look anyways.]

I've never heard of such a thing before.

[fieldtrip]

Yeah, yeah, I know. No one here has. But it's pretty common back home.

So what about you? Anything interesting?

[puppysitting]

[Derek looks up at her again, leaning back against the armchair. He waves his hand.]

Nah, not really.

[It was hard for Derek to trust anyone in the first place. And when he ends up in an entirely foreign area with no way back home? He had to be careful. And with the idea of people from different worlds coming together, it also brought the idea of more possible hunters.]

[fieldtrip]

[Toph doesn't mind being distrusted. She respects someone wanting to do their own thing and be independent, so she just shrugs.]

Whatever. Just don't leave the city limits or you'll probably get attacked, and I don't play babysitter.

... I wouldn't mind showing you around, though. If you wanted. [Not that Toph is at all bored or lonely here. Noooo.]

[puppysitting]

Yeah sure why--

[HOLD UP. Derek holds up his hands, the word 'attack' sticking out to him.]

Hold on. Attacked? By what exactly? And I can handle myself, thanks.

[fieldtrip]

[If he says he can handle himself, she'll just believe him. Toph would hate someone questioning her making that statement, so she won't do it to someone else, and just goes on with answering.]

Monsters, freaky spirit things-- you know, standard storytelling stuff. Only it's all real, here.

And we can fight them. [She obviously takes some satisfaction out of that.]

[Well it didn't seem too different from where he came from. Werewolves, lizard men... Derek nods and shrugs]

At least that'll keep things interesting while we're stuck here for the time being.

Interesting, yeah, that's one way of putting it. [Toph would agree with that, but it's not the typical reaction, so that makes her interested herself.]

So you like to fight? You said you can take care of yourself, and you aren't phased about facing ooglie-booglies.

[Derek shifts a little in his seat.]

Let's just say, back at home, there are quite a few monsters there. So I know how to defend myself.

[fieldtrip]

Seriously? We don't have anything like that. Just piles of angry firebenders. [She makes a wild hand gesture with both hands to indicate an explosion.]

Oh, and these guys that kept trying to kidnap me, but I dealt with them. And Dai Li agents-- I dealt with them, too. We don't have any non-human enemies.

[puppysitting]

[Derek quirks a brow at that]

People trying to kidnap you? Sounds rough.

[fieldtrip]

I invented an awesome new skill out of it, so I can't complain.

[There's a beat, and then she says insistently,] We're not going to sit around here all day, are we? I said I'd show you around. Let's go!

[puppysitting]

[Derek nods and smiles a little. Well for being in such a shitty place, at least there were some up beat people around like Toph here. He stands, dusting himself off before resting his hands in his leather jacket pockets..]

Lead the way.

[fieldtrip]

[Toph gleefully hops to her feet and her makes her way unerringly toward the door, leaving it open behind her for him.]

Anything you really want to see? Otherwise we should start at the market.

[puppysitting]

[And he follows her right out the door, tugging the door shut behind him.]

The market sounds like a good place to start.

[fieldtrip]

Market it is. First we have to go through the snooty district. It's a real snooze fest, so I try to get through it as quick as possible.

[Heading for the stairs...]

[puppysitting]

[He flinches at that and speaks up]

Do you... need some help?

[It felt awkward asking but. It's a blind little girl. There's no way she can walk down stairs on her own! She had no cane, no nothing to help her know what's coming up in front of her.

Then again, she navigated the room pretty well. Could have been from memorization too.]

[fieldtrip]

[In a sweetly innocent, yet clearly sarcastic voice,] Oh, would you please? I'm so helpless and weak on my own, I could never manage.

[Toph stomps over to the stairs and starts down them at a good clip, completely ignoring him in sudden irritation.]

I'm fine. I never need help.

[puppysitting]

[Color him impressed! He raises both eyebrows, watching her walk down the stairs with ease. Derek snaps out of it and walks down the stairs behind her a few steps.]

Sorry, I just thought I would ask.
