As a note, these threads may be used for application samples, which are opening August 11th. So get your samples ready ahead of time with this meme! However, even if all participants are accepted with those characters, these threads will not be game canon.

This meme is taking place in the setting of Darstone, so while you may leave your comment blank, I'd like to recommend you set up a scene or two in your initial comment. Some suggested settings are provided below, but make up whatever you'd like based off the setting pages!

⑴ Marketplace. There's a lot to do in the market-- not just buying goods and window shopping, but sitting down for a cup of coffee at an outdoor table, or getting a drink at a bar.

⑵ Housing. You've just gotten here and finally made it to your assigned apartment, but it turns out you have roommates, and they're one of them.

⑶ Adventuring. Whether out into the surrounding caves or taking a boat onto the lake, you're adventuring, maybe on a quest. Whoever's with you might be a member of your party-- or they might be trying to beat you to the reward.

⑷ Snow. What's snow doing in a cave? Isn't this weird? Well, Darstone is situated under a frosty mountain peak, and from time to time the local mages like to simulate the weather that's going on up above. That means there's some very light, fluffy snow falling from the cave ceiling right now.

A necromancer? [He grimaces nervously. Willow's mentioned that kind of magic - a type she won't practice. But this is one who openly talks about corpses and admits to it.

Great.

Well, saving himself unfortunately means saving her, so he moves to help with the dumpster, throwing his back into pushing it towards the fence.]

You wwouldn't kill me either, right?

Don't worry, I don't bring things back if I don't know what they are, [she says, shooting him a sharp grin. It doesn't turn out well.

[She likes rattling people, and even with the circumstances can't pass up the chance to needle someone. In truth though, she doesn't like killing people without provocation. The reckless killing part of her life is over with, thankfully.

The steel groans against the rock, and then slams against the wall with a puff of dust. Acacia scrambles onto the top of the dumpster, uncaring about getting dirty, and jumps to try to grab the top of the wall with her hands to pull herself over.]

[Eridan scowls at her.] Wwell, if I do die, you had better leavve me for the official necromancers. I don't wwant to be your unholy slavve, and my matesprit wwon't be happy, I swwear to you.

[After that little speech, he casts one apprehensive look back at the snake, then scrambles on top of the dumpster. He's cautious not to get any trash on his clothing, grimacing as one foot slips into something squishy, then he leaps for the top of the wall, digging in with his claws and climbing.]

[She neatly hops over the ridge of the wall and lands on her feet on the ground on the other side, reaching a hand out to stabilize herself.]

Leave you for the official raisers, got it, [she says brightly, returning to her normal irrepressible-- and almost annoying-- cheer now that they're successfully escaping.] You'd probably be an annoying slave, anyway. No humor at all.

I wwould be! [He's very earnest on this point] I'd be the wworst fuckin' slavve in the history a slavves, on account a the fact that I nevver followw orders. I'm practically famous for it.

[And he grins. Maybe he is joking, after all]

[Oh, maybe he isn't so humorless. She laughs, always happy not to take something seriously, and starts off down the alley toward the main street. She's not eager to wait around when the snake might eventually get through and over the barrier they'd crossed.]

I'll remember that-- I wouldn't want to make your matespur-thing unhappy, either. Sounds scary and potentially lethal.

So, time for those pleasantries now, I suppose?

It is! [He moves to follow her, despite his uncertainty. It's not like he's about to stay where he is, and there's only one way to go] She's the most powwerful fuckin wwitch in the city, and not someone to be trifled wwith.

[He pauses. Oh right. Pleasantries] I'm Eridan Ampora, Municipal Inspector.

A witch, huh? Luckily I'm not the type to trifle with anyone. [It was a little too direct for her.

She peers cautiously out into the street, looking for any sign of the snake.] Acacia Claren, usually a... free agent. I guess I'm even freer than normal here.

Hmph. [He eyes her sidelong] Wwell, you'd better just behavve yourself wwhile you're here, is all I'm sayin'. If there's a plague a zombies, you can bet I'll be comin' to you for an explanation.

Oh, no way. [She wrinkles her nose.] I don't do zombies. You know how high maintenance they are? [She's kidding, mostly.]

Anyway, don't be so suspicious. Necromancy is strictly regulated back home -- I'm a perfectly law-abiding citizen most of the time.

I'm alwways suspicious. It's my job.

[She raises her eyebrows.]

Municipal inspectors are supposed to be suspicious? I'm not speckling my drywall improperly, I promise. [Does it sound like she doesn't know what she's talking about? Because she doesn't.]

[He sneers, showing a row of sharp shark's teeth] I don't inspect buildings. I invvestigate all kinds a disturbances throughout the city.

Oh, that kind of municipal inspector, [she says knowingly.] Say no more.

You want to go get a drink or something, and I can assuage your fears about my intentions toward the city? We should probably alert the cops so they can take care of that snake, too.

[She instinctively wants to network, make connections, gather info. Acacia is used to operating on the subtler, more discreet side of the population, and aside from that she likes socializing and doesn't know that many people here yet.]

[His facial fins flick back a little in surprise at the offer of a drink, and he looks at her thoughtfully] Wwell, I could take you up on that offer, I suppose. I havven't got anythin' important to do for the moment.

[He pauses, and pulls out his mirror] Uh, except this. [He grabs the stylus and scribbles, sending a message to the authorities about the snake]

Well, that done, I'm the only important thing left, aren't I? [she says in amusement, lacing her fingers together behind her back and starting to walk down the street, trusting him to follow.]

D'you want alcohol or coffee?

[He does follow, and the sound of sirens tells him that the animal is being taken care of]

Coffee. [He frowns, and gestures as they reach a side street] This wway. There's a good place along here.

Lead away-- coffee's good.

Your suit back's a little scuffed, by the way, [she points out as she follows along.] Hope you weren't going anywhere special.

[He stiffens and quickly pauses, taking off his suit jacket. He groans at the sight of the scuffing and makes some attempt to rub at the marks]

You'd better buy me a new fuckin' suit!

Buy you a-- [She stares, incredulous. What a reaction he'd had.]

I haven't even been here long enough to move out of housing yet, I can't pay for anything! Your taste doesn't look exactly cheap, either.

I don't havve so many suits that I can go around throwwin' them awway, all right? [He huffs at the mark and sulkily puts it back on, glum]

Okay, okay. [She holds up her hands defensively, but relents.] I can handle having it dry cleaned. Truce?

[He eyes her suspiciously, then nods] Vvery wwell.

[They've reached the cafe, and he turns to open the door, actually holding it for her.] And here wwe are.

[She flashes him a smile, surprised at his manners, but darts through with a quick step.] Thank you, kind sir. After that experience I need a white chocolate mocha. The more trouble you've had, the longer the name of your drink needs to be.

Wwell, I havve to agree wwith that statement. It's taken me for fuckin' evver to get my drink just right. [he follows her inside and moves to the counter, ordering something with at least five alterations to the standard latte]
